Florida News That Impact You – April 19th, 2021

Florida’s weekly trend for cases began to level off over the weekend, however, the increase in new cases, which coincided with Spring Break, stands at 6,381 over the past week. On the vaccine front, over 8 million Floridians have been vaccinated with at least a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. This includes nearly 5.1 million who’ve completed a vaccine series.

On a related note, Publix is leaving their vaccine portal open at all times for the ability to sign up for a Moderna vaccine. Publix notes that not all counties will have available vaccines at all times, so you should check back regularly if you’re not able to make an appointment near you.

Lastly, with only two weeks left in Florida’s legislative session, a new bill limiting executive authority was filed in Florida’s House on Sunday. The legislation, introduced at Governor DeSantis’s request, would limit the governor’s unilateral spending authority during a declared emergency, would limit emergency orders issued by local governments to 42 days, allow the governor to invalidate local orders, and ban vaccine passports.
