Charlottesville Won't Celebrate Jefferson's Birthday

Thomas Jefferson's birthday won't be celebrated as a holiday anymore in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Instead, the city council voted Monday to replace the April 13th holiday honoring the founding father with Liberation and Freedom Day on March 3rd. That's the day that U.S. Army forces arrived in the city in 1865.

As the Washington Times reports, Charlottesville has struggled with race-related issues, particularly since a white nationalist rally turned violent in 2017.
