The county health department confirms there have been seven cases of adults with Hepatitis A since the first of the year, making Broward as well as counties to the north a high-risk zone. No word yet on the source of the communicable liver disease.
Hepatitis A is usually spread person-to-person through objects, food or drinks contaminated by fecal matter from an infected person.
Symptoms of Hepatitis A include:
- Nausea
- Fever
- Diarrhea
- Stomach Pain
- Fatigue
- Jaundice
Along with the Broward cases the number of hepatitis cases diagnosed in Palm Beach and Martin counties are continuing to climb.
Already this year, 22 cases of the highly-contagious hepatitis A have been confirmed in the two countties and two deaths in Palm City are blamed on the virus.
Statewide, 690 cases of hepatitis A have been confirmed in the first quarter of the year.
