Florida Red Tide Is Spreading, Officials Say

The red tide outbreak on Florida's Gulf Coast continues to creep to the north.

Sarasota County is now under a respiratory alert, along with Lee and Charlotte counties.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Ruskin expect a shift in wind direction later this week could send the toxic algae bloom further north to Manatee County.

More than 100 miles of the Gulf Coast are impacted by the red tide outbreak that started in November, making it the longest in a decade.
