Florida Father Accused Of Shoving Wipes Down 5-Month-Old Son's Throat

A Florida father is accused of stuffing balled-up baby wipes down his 5-month-old son's throat.

Thirty-two-year-old Michael Hurley, of Trapon Springs, is now facing a charge of attempted first-degree murder.

NBC 6

The Tampa Bay Times reports that Hurley was at home alone with the baby when the boy's mother arrived to find Hurley holding the baby with his fingers down his throat saying he was trying to grab something but "his fingers were too big."

Hurley told investigators it was a "freak accident" and he couldn't remember what happened.

Authorities say the baby is in critical condition on a ventilator in a hospital.

Hurley was being held in jail after bail was set Thursday for $500,000.

Jail records didn't show any plea being entered.
