A Homestead woman is in jail after authorities say she choked her 9-year-old daughter inside of their home.
Australia Webb, 31, is facing charges of child abuse and felony battery.
Officials say a witness reported hearing screaming coming from the living room of the apartment on Monday.
When the witness entered the apartment, he allegedly saw Webb place the girl in a bear hug and reach for her neck in an attempt to choke her.
The witness told authorities that Webb also, while standing behind the girl, began to choke her with both hands.
The 9-year-old victim told detectives she could not breathe for four to five seconds.
Webb told detectives she only spanked her child and did not choke her, but the victim and the witness said there was no spanking.
Webb is in jail on a $10,000 bond and the court has ordered her to stay away from her daughter.
