Cocaine Bale Recovered Off Coast Of Florida, USCG Says

The U.S. Coast Guard says a floating bale of cocaine has been recovered in the Gulf of Mexico off Florida.

More than 75 pounds of cocaine was found in the package on Sunday, according to a statement by USCG. The release says a "good Samaritan" notified authorities of the odd bale bobbing in the waters south of Pensacola on Saturday evening.

Multiple agencies searched the area that night.

In addition to the Coast Guard, many agencies assisted in the search and recovery, including:

  • Customs and Border Protection
  • The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency
  • Orange Beach police
  • Homeland Security Investigations
  • The interagency Regional Coordinating Mechanism

It's unclear to whom the cocaine belongs.
