Family Of MSD Victim To Meet With Media Along With Lawyers Of Other Victims

The family of a Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting victim will meet with the media Friday.

The parents of Joaquin Oliver – one of the 17 individuals killed in the Feb. 14th massacre - are expected at a news conference with attorneys representing two other victims’ families who claim the Broward County school district is minimizing its responsibility in the Parkland tragedy.

According to the Sun Sentinel, the school district's insurance company is claiming the shootings as one incident with many victims – a move that uses a state statute that would limit liability for the district to just $300,000 per occurrence and $200,000 per person.

Several survivors have filed lawsuits – including Anthony Borges, a freshman who was shot multiple times while protecting classmates – against a variety of defendants, including the school district and the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Since Joaquin died, his parents have been honoring his memory through charities to support classmates who are seeking change.
