U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Cancel Ft. Lauderdale Air Show Performance

There's a big change already for next week's Fort Lauderdale Air Show.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds have scrubbed their performance in the wake of a fatal crash 3 weeks ago involving one of their own.

Major Stephen Del Bagno, 34, died after the F-16 he was piloting went down during a routine training flight over the Nevada desert.

“While we’re disappointed the Thunderbirds will not be performing, we totally respect their decision given the situation,” Bryan Lilley, president of the Fort Lauderdale Air Show, said in a prepared statement Thursday morning. “We wish them the best as they recover from their loss.”

The U.S. Navy will now headline the Fort Lauderdale Air Show with its F/A-18F Super Hornet TCA Demo Team.
