BSO Union Members Have No Confidence In Sheriff

More than 500 Broward Sheriff's Office deputies have lost confidence in their leader.

Broward Sheriff's Office Deputies Association members have voted 534 to 94 they have no-confidence in Sheriff Scott Israel.

Union President Jeff Bell says they now plan to ask Governor Rick Scott to remove Israel from office.

Israel is reacting to the union's vote with this statement:

"I am accountable to the citizens of Broward County. My job is to continue to do the job I was elected to do, which is to ensure the safety of Broward County’s 1.9 million residents. I will not be distracted from my duties by this inconsequential IUPA union vote, which was designed to extort a 6.5 percent pay raise from this agency. Those who purportedly voted in this straw ballot reflect only a small number of the 5,400 BSO employees. The unions representing the vast majority of our employees solidly support the leadership of this agency."

Bell claimed their allegations of corruption and bad leadership have been ongoing but the tipping point was the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High shooting.

Israel admits errors were made in the response to the tragedy.Three other unions have shown their support for Israel.
