Marlins To Celebrate 25th Anniversary With O.G. Season Ticket Holders

The Miami Marlins will celebrate 25 years this season – and the team is honoring that landmark this Tuesday.

The Marlins will unveil a logo celebrating their 25th anniversary at an event with those who have had season tickets for that inaugural season in 1993. The event, which will include new owner Derek Jeter, will take place at 4 p.m. at Marlins Park – and will also include a chance to meet with Charlie Hough, who threw the first ever pitch in the history of what was then the Florida Marlins.

Miami also announced new benefits for those with season tickets – including as much as 20 percent off concessions and merchandise as well as the option to exchange tickets for games missed for future games, which compliments a current program allowing season ticket holders to exchange tickets for games they know they will miss in advance.

The team did announce one change Tuesday -- that they fired the man who plays their mascot Billy the Marlin ahead of Fan Day, set for this Saturday at Marlins Park.

Miami will open spring training on February 14th in Jupiter with the regular season opening day scheduled for March 29th at home against the Chicago Cubs.
