Senator Nelson Meets With Puerto Rican Leaders To Survey Maria Efforts

State Senator Bill Nelson has taken some time out from his winter break for a firsthand look at ongoing efforts to recover from Hurricane Maria.

On Wednesday, Nelson flew to Puerto Rico with 9th District State Rep. Darren Sotto to survey damages left over by the massive, September 20th storm.

Nelson will return to Florida Wednesday night.

On Thursday, the state senator will meet in Kissimmee with Puerto Rico's governor and members of the Puerto Rican community.

Maria is reportedly blamed for more than one-thousand deaths in Puerto Rico.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management has reported that more than 269,000 people have traveled from Puerto Rico to Florida in the past three months, but it is unknown how many are considered to have relocated from the Caribbean Island.
