Monroe County Sheriff's officers say a resident was returning to his home on 41st Street in Marathon when he saw a man walking out the front door.

The resident told deputies his home was damaged by Hurricane Irma and that the door doesn't lock properly.

The resident allegedly yelled at the man and proceeded to call 911. He later discovered that a pair of size 12 red-and-white Reebok shoes were missing, along with numerous cellphones.

A short time later, a deputy was at a convenience store on 55th Street when he saw a man fitting the burglar's description wearing the same size 12 shoes.

The man, identified as French, also had one of the stolen phones in his pocket.
