Nova Southeastern University To Expand To Tampa Area

Nova Southeastern University is planning to expand its medical school to the Tampa Bay region.

A new, $50 million donation that will aid that expansion will also extend scholarships for students pursuing careers in healthcare.

The donation, from Tampa cardiologist Kiran Patel and his wife, pediatrician Pallavi Patel, is the largest gift in NSU’s history, according to a report by the Miami Herald.

The Tampa site will serve as the second location for NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine program.

The program serves 230 students on NSU’s main Davie campus, and plans are to add 150 students at the new campus by 2019.

In addition to its Tampa  program, the university is adding a traditional M.D. program next year in Davie. Along with the M.D. program, a campus hospital will open partnership with Tenet Healthcare.
