WATCH: U.S. Military Prepares For Hurricane Irma Relief Efforts

The U.S. military is moving ships, supplies, equipment, and troops into place before Hurricane Irma.

The storm is expected to begin pounding down on local areas within hours.

The Navy is putting two amphibious ships and Marines with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in position so they can help, if requested.

Bases in Alabama, Georgia, and New Jersey have been designated to support response and recovery efforts.

The Pentagon also is making experts in crisis response available to state, territorial, and international officials.
