Broward Man Sentenced For Offering To Pay $100 To Have Sex With 10-Year-Old

A Pompano Beach man who showed up for what he thought would be a sexual encounter with a 10-year-old girl was sentenced Monday to 10 years in federal prison.

Prosecutors say 46-year-old Byron McCormick believed he was communicating online and by text with a dad who was willing to let him have sex with his daughter in exchange for $100.

In reality, McCormick was in contact with undercover law enforcement officials from the FBl’s Child Exploitation Task Force.

McCormick was arrested in March when he showed up at a Davie restaurant to hand over the cash to the dad before the three of them would go to a hotel.

McCormick allegedly took part in more than 700 communications in less than two months with the “dad” and “child.” Court records show he also sent the “child” several photographs of his genitals.

McCormick admitted all of the allegations against him and pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity earlier this year.

Following a 10 year sentence, McCormick will have to register as a sex offender.
