Two Miami-Dade teenagers are facing murder charges.
Police say Derrick Warren and Edward Lopez, both 15-years-old, are charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery after the a security guard was found shot to death inside Reny's Auto Sales in the 22000 block of South Dixie Highway.
Authorities responded to the scene around 1:30 a.m. May 8 to fence that was damaged by a vehicle attempting to knock it down. Officers then discovered the victim inside the vehicle in a pool of blood and a possible gunshot wound to the head.
Although police say the suspects stole four cars from the dealership, they told police their motive for stabbing and then shooting the guard was to teach him a lesson.
Warren told police he and Lopez were walking by the auto shop and spoke to the victim. When Warren asked how much a car was, the victim allegedly told them to leave and said "f--- your grandma," according to a police report.
That's when Lopez went after the victim with a metal stick, police said. Warren told police that he pulled Lopez away and the two left. But, about 30 minutes later, the pair returned to confront the victim about his comments.
Lopez told police that he and Warren had seen the victim inside the dealership office and planned to attack him with an empty beer bottle and place him in a chokehold, an arrest report said. Then the pair wanted to steal cars and money from the lot.
The victim told Warren that he had a gun, the police report said, and Warren disarmed him by grabbing the firearm and placing it in his pocket.
Warren then told Lopez to look for anything of value to steal, the report said. He then placed the gun down and demanded access to the safe. The victim then begged the teens to leave and attempted to arm himself with a knife, but Warren grabbed it, the report said.
The victim also refused to open the safe on the demands of Warren and Lopez, police said. He tried to escape through a front door, but Warren pushed him, slammed the door closed and said “You ain’t going anywhere.”
The teens also moved a couch and a fan in front of the door and bound the door with an extension cord, barricading it and thus not allowing the victim to leave, police said.
Warren then began to stab the victim several times, police said, and the victim fell to the ground, bleeding.
Warren then told Lopez to shoot the victim with a gun that he’d found, police said. Lopez wiped off the gun with a glove in his right hand and fired one shot at the victim, police said. Warren then took the gun and shot the victim two more times. He then picked up a rock and began striking the victim in the head.
Warren began ransacking the business and located a box of keys, police said. While they were sifting through the keys, the teens continued to strike the victim in the head with fists.
The teens stole four vehicles, one which they ended up crashing, which is how police caught the pair.
Aside from charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery, both teens also face charges of burglary and false imprisonment.
