South Florida Commissioner, Wife Receiving Politically-Charged Threats

A North Bay Village commissioner and his wife are allegedly being blackmailed after receiving a number of threatening letters and packages, police say.

Commissioner Douglas Hornsby revealed the threats against him and his wife at a commission meeting May 9. Hornsby says someone is threatening to destroy his and his wife's career and marriage.

The couple brought the matter to the City Attorney and the North Bay Village Police Chief, NBC-6 Miami reports. The FBI was also contacted. The police chief called the threats potential blackmail, extortion and coercion.

North Bay Village Mayor Connie Leon-Kreps says she hopes the issue is resolved soon, for the sake of the commissioner, the community and its residents.
