New Service Allows Inmates To Order Pizza To Their Jail Cell

Inmates at the Cook County Jail in Chicago can now satisfy their pizza cravings. Detainees are now able to order hot and fresh pizzas directly to their cells!

The Chicago Tribune reports the pizza is cooked by fellow inmates in the jail's pizza oven. A plain margherita pizza goes for $5, while a pie with mushrooms, salami, olives and eggs goes for $7.

According to the report, the original plan was to have inmates sell pizzas to the Cook County Jail staff; but the guards wanted "nothing to do with anything made by detainees."

Proceeds from inmate pizza sales are going to the "Recipe for Change" program which teaches inmates skills they can use once they're released.

Since the pizza deliveries started on April 20, 208 pies have been sold.
