Man Uses Old Man Mask, Sick Grandson Story To Steal From South Florida Banks

A man has been arrested for robbing two South Florida banks, claiming that he needed $40,000 for his sick grandson.

Abraham Maghen, 26, told a teller at a TD Bank in Boca Raton Tuesday that he needed the money now. "Hurry up, he's going to die," court records say.

The teller gave Maghen about $1,800, which included a GPS anti-theft locating device, records said.  He took the money and left the branch in the 1300 block of West Palmetto Park, authorities said.

The FBI believes that Maghen is responsible for at least two bank robberies in Palm Beach County and Broward County, in which more than $11,000 was stolen.

The man was found on Tuesday at a home in the 2600 block of North 66th Avenue.

During a search of Maghen’s room, agents found a mask resembling an old man, which they believe was used during both robberies.

Maghen was arrested Tuesday and is in federal custody in connection with the robberies.
