AMERICA, the world's last bastion of FREEDOM!
Let's not botch it.
We can reclaim the Republic.
This country is the really last place on earth where an individual can consider him/herself a free person.
I know...many of our freedoms have been lost to "social justice", but we are still in time to recover from this "overdose of political correctness."
Thank you 610 WIOD for having these beacons of political light turned on at all times. Keep up the good work.
God Bless you.
Rafael.

Drilling
Before people decide to be "FOR" or "AGAINST" drilling off Florida's coast, everyone must research the current available information. Many things have changed over the past 40 years. Have the oil rigs off the coasts of Texas, Louisiana & Mississippi ruined their beaches?  If I remember correctly Katrina was a Cat 5 hurricane and NO OIL SPILLED from the rigs.  As much as we may work toward alternative energy sources it is going to be at least 50 years before we can be completely off oil, so that leaves the question of our oil or foreign oil, which works better for us, as a country?  Lastly I really don't understand environmentalists who seem to prefer importing oil which is by SHIPS...which SPILL OIL.  The OIL disasters occurring over the past 50 years were all from ships spilling oil, not from off shore oil drilling, so why is it worse for the environment to drill than to import? And we haven't brought national security and aiding and abetting our enemies (Iran, Venezuela, China buying drilling leases from Cuba for ex) into this conversation.

Jimmy Cefalo
I really enjoy listening to Jimmy in the morning.  The last thing I need to hear forst thing in the morning is some obnoxious radio show (Stern) with a bunch of foul language and pointless babble; Jimmy's  relaxed attitude and friendly demeanor help me get a good start to my day!  Thanks Jimmy for being a class act.

Teacher Merit Pay
As I drove to work this morning I listened as the host talked about how his salary was based on his productivity, his online behavior, etc. and how in "the real world" most pay was based on performance - and I agree.  But, what the legislature is proposing would base teacher pay on a STUDENT'S performance, on a single test,- Most importantly we have no control over the students placed in our classes - we can't force them to come to school, pay attention, read the text, take notes, do homework - we can't override parents who enroll them in daily after school activities which leave no time for academics, or parents who let Jane stay home everytime she has a hang-nail.  Every child is capable of learning - but it needs to be a three-sided effort - CHILD, parent and teacher. And until students and parents are held accountable, teacher merit pay based on an exam is ludicrous.  I once heard the founder of Ben and Jerry's ice cream speak - he spoke about how he controlled his product by controlling his raw materials.  Public school teachers can not turn away a less than perfect, dedicated student.  We take all children and do our best.
