Paris Olympics Unveils a Track and Field First, the Color Purple

(Paris, France) - For something new and unusual in track and field, instead of the traditional red-brick clay color that has become synonymous with Olympic running events, organizers have opted for a vibrant shade of purple for the running surface.

There's no official explanation for the selection of the color purple.

Also, the flame for the 2024 Paris Olympics has been lit in Olympia, the birthplace of the ancient Olympics. The flame will now begin its journey in a relay to light the cauldron that will mark the opening for the Summer Games in July.

It will then be carried through Greece before being handed over to French organizers at the Athens venue used for the first modern Olympics in 1896.

Also, team USA Basketball has its sights set on its 17th gold medal this summer finalizing its roster which will include Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Lakers forwards LeBron James and Heat center Bam Adebayo.
